Five years. Ten lessons. And a lot of learning the hard way.
I've been building in Sub-Saharan Africa since my late twenties — Kinshasa, Nairobi, and a farm in Bandundu. Five years of wins, failures, and expensive mistakes.
If I could go back and talk to 29-year-old Nohémie, this is what I'd tell her.
In this episode of The Diaspora Playbook, I break down ten lessons:
1. Supply the demand.
2. Patience is the biggest currency.
3. You cannot have two paths at the same time.
4. Be ruthless about your circle.
5. Your body is not indestructible.
6. Fall in love with boredom.
7. Build community.
8. Cash is king again.
9. Help rich people make more money.
10. Let go of control.
If you're building in Africa — or thinking about it — these are the lessons I paid for so you don't have to.
What lesson has building in Africa taught you? Tell me in the comments.
