Living in Pitcairn Island, the most remote inhabited island in the Pacific, home to the descendants of the HMS Bounty mutineers. A 4K travel documentary about life on Pitcairn Island today Around 40 people live on Pitcairn. In 1790, the mutineers who settled it burned their only ship. Now its young leave for school, and almost no one is coming in. This is Pitcairn Island, the remote South Pacific home of the descendants of the Bounty mutineers. We make the journey there, from Tahiti to Mangareva, then down a rope ladder into an open longboat at Bounty Bay. We explore Henderson Island, one of the largest marine reserves on Earth, and the dark night skies of Mata ki te Rangi. Then we go back to 1789: the mutiny, the burning of the Bounty, the violent early years, and the two times the whole community packed up and left, then came back. You'll also see daily life in Adamstown, Bounty Day and the Pitkern language, the island's hardest chapter, and why a school that closed with no pupils, and a new immigration law, could decide what happens next.
