Drakensberg Hike, Day One

Woke up at the crack of dawn on April 3, 2026, (Catholic and Protestant Good Friday, incedentally), and drove from my friends' home in Ha Motsie, Lesotho, all the way around to Witsieshoek Lodge outside of Qwa Qwa, Free State, South Africa. Then I got on a cool safari type shuttle vehicle to the Sentenal Peak Car Park. From there, I hiked up the Tugela Falls trail (including the legendary Chain Ladders), and then over the ridge, back into Lesotho, and on over to Ifidi Cave, which is in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, way up on the edge of the Drakensberg Escarpment. At Ifidi Cave, after a long day of travel by motor vehicle and foot, I set my tent, cooked some food, and camped out for the first night of my three-day Drakensberg backpacking trip. #hiking #drakensberg #hikertrash #lesotho #southafrica
