The Kandy Esala Perahera, (runs from 18–28 August) also known as the Festival of the Tooth, is one of Sri Lanka's most historic and spectacular cultural festivals. It is held annually in Kandy to honour the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha, enshrined at the Sri Dalada Maligawa. The procession features beautifully decorated elephants, Kandyan dancers, traditional drummers, fire performers, whip-crackers, torch bearers and ceremonial rituals, creating a spectacular display of Sri Lankan heritage and devotion.
