Right — I had the order wrong. You took the shorter route from Happy Camp to Yreka to get supplies, but road construction ended up making the shortcut take longer. I'd change the opening to: I headed into Yreka for supplies, laundry, and a quick thrift-store stop. I decided to take the shorter route to town, but road construction had other plans and turned the shortcut into a much longer trip than expected. After stocking back up, I headed to my mining spot for a five-day push. I bounced back and forth between two different spots trying to stay on the gold. There was color in the box every day, and I was averaging around half a gram a day, but for the amount of ground I was moving, I felt like there should have been more. Then, before daylight one morning, someone drove through my campsite and set up right behind me. After everything that's been happening around this spot, I decided I'd had enough, loaded up the rest of my camp, and left. Another five days of prospecting, camp life, and chasing gold in Northern California.
