The sonata began to enjoy a revival in Spain in the mid-19th century, following its virtual disappearance from the piano repertoire in the late 18th century. Composers such as Marcial del Adalid, Teobaldo Power and Isaac Albéniz contributed to its revival with a small but original body of sonatas composed between 1853 and 1888.
