A demonstration of setting up a disaster recovery landing zone in IBM VPC for on-premises and hybrid workloads using the RackWare engine deployed from the IBM Cloud marketplace. The demo protects source servers from three different environments at once, an on-prem VMware lab, a host in Oracle OCI, and workloads in a separate IBM VPC region, showing how one DR target can cover a mixed estate.
What's demonstrated:
Adding source hosts to the RackWare engine, which validates connectivity and runs discovery to gather file system details, disk usage, and dependency mapping across the hosts being protected.
Creating a capture and provision wave that runs a stage one sync, seeding used data from every source host into the RackWare data store, while provisioning a target resource for the one host configured as hot standby.
Building two DR policies, a cold policy for storage-only protection and a hot policy for the active host, with RPO schedules set by frequency down to five minutes or continuous, parallel sync counts, and email notifications.
Applying hosts to policies using tags rather than selecting them one by one, which is what makes the approach workable when there are hundreds of machines to protect.
Setting a retention policy with hourly snapshots kept for a day and daily snapshots kept for forty five days, then browsing a snapshot to restore individual files and folders as well as entire systems.
Configuring failover groups with tiers and boot delays so machines come up in the right order, then running a real failover where the engine provisions IBM VSIs from the stored images and brings a database and its application online in IBM VPC.
