Transforming This 1-Ton Jeep CJ-7 Interior: Custom Tube Console & Swing-Out Cooler Rack

Dave’s 1980s Jeep CJ-7 is easily one of the coolest, most capable 1-ton CJs around—packing an LS V8, a Kingpin Ford Dana 60 front axle with our WFO low-profile truss and high-steer arms, a 14-bolt full-float rear axle, and Fox 2.5 coilovers on our WFO 3-link suspension builder kit. While the suspension and drivetrain are dialed for the hardest trails, Dave brought the CJ back into the shop for some interior and exterior functional fabrication upgrades: 1. Custom DOM Tube & Aluminum Center Console: The old setup had his transfer case shifters banging directly into his right leg while driving. We fabricated an all-new frame out of 3/4" .083-wall DOM steel tubing skinned with aluminum panels and tied it cleanly between the dash and a locking Tuffy security console. We swapped to Atlas cable-style shifters with hidden slotted shift gates to gain knee room, relocated the ARB compressor and locker switches right by his hand, added dual cup holders, installed integrated floorboard dome/courtesy lights, and rewired the factory headlight switch into the Switch-Pros system. 2. Swing-Out Yeti 65 Cooler Rack: Out back, we built a custom rear cooler rack designed specifically to secure a Yeti 65. It features a heavy-duty pivot and quick-release latch pin so you can swing the cooler out of the way for instant access to the rear tailgate.
