The bacon and eggs fry for the first 10 minutes only; after that it's the stew puttering under its lid, soft rain on the window and a quiet kitchen. For sleeping, studying or switching off. No music. It is still dark when the scene begins. The old gas stove is lit, the stew bubbles softly, and the radio murmurs low in the corner, too quiet to make out a word. At 45 minutes the radio clicks off. Around the one-hour mark the rain gets heavier and the drops tap on the glass. After an hour and a half the night outside slowly turns to a dim blue morning over the fjord. The stew keeps puttering to the very end.
