An obscure Cambridge ghost story from 1913, Quia Nominor tells the unsettling tale of John Byron, a vain and unpopular Fellow of Magdalene College whose encounter with a performing bear leads to an extraordinary supernatural ordeal.
Originally published anonymously under the initial “B.”, the story is now known to be the work of Arthur Christopher Benson, the Cambridge scholar and friend of M. R. James.
In this reading, Christopher Halton also explores the remarkable historical parallel with Lord Byron, who famously kept a bear at Trinity College in 1807.
Welcome to Haunted Tales of Darkness, where forgotten classic ghost stories are rediscovered and given the audience they deserve.
