Family Hike from Bastei to Schwedenlöcher – Stunning Rock Passages, Forest Atmosphere Stair Sections

We climb to see the world. We walk to feel free. A morning hike in Saxon Switzerland – from the Bastei viewpoints down to the Schwedenlöcher gorge. We started early to enjoy quiet trails and fresh forest air. The route begins at the Bastei bridge with its iconic rock formations, then continues down into Schwedenlöcher – narrow sandstone corridors and one of the most impressive sections in the region. Further along the trail, near Rathewalde, we reached a tiny waterfall located right on the path – small, hidden, and a perfect natural detail. Nearby there’s a slope‑protection tunnel, but the waterfall itself is completely natural and easy to spot. Right before Rathewalde we turned left and skipped the village. This leads into a quieter, less visited section with no cliffs or stairs – just a simple forest trail heading back toward the Bastei parking area. This is where we stopped for breakfast with the family. It was early, everyone was hungry, and the forest surroundings made the moment perfect. These small breaks always amplify the hike – snacks taste better, the air feels fresher, and you appreciate the day even more. Thank you to everyone who joined us.
