We left San Francisco and drove north to Mendocino with one goal: to see whales along the Northern California coast. But the road became a much bigger part of the journey than we expected. Our two-day road trip took us through Petaluma and Gowan’s Cider Garden before an unexpected stop beneath the giant redwoods of Navarro River Redwoods State Park. From there, we reached Mendocino and began searching the coast—from Point Cabrillo Lighthouse to sunset at Jug Handle, then Big River Beach and Mendocino Headlands the following morning. And somewhere along that coastline, the reason for the entire trip finally appeared. The journey continued to Laguna Point and Point Arena Lighthouse before the long drive south to San Francisco after sunset. A road trip through redwoods, rugged coastline, lighthouses, beaches, sunsets—and a search for whales on the Northern California coast. You take the trip… I show you the journey.
