Painting Owl Eyes (Meet Torch) with artist Lynda Norman

Today we're beginning a watercolor owl named Torch, and the first thing we're focusing on is the eyes. In many animal paintings, the eyes are what bring the subject to life. By carefully layering watercolor and paying attention to light, shape, and color, the owl’s expression slowly starts to emerge. In this session I walk through how I approach painting owl eyes and how small details can give personality to the bird before the rest of the painting even begins. Torch is just getting started, but already you can see the character beginning to appear. Sometimes the eyes really do say everything. Thank you for painting along with me.
