Taking Care of Grandma’s Old Homestead Limewashing & Painting

Welcome back to the old village house! My grandmother is away abroad, so I've taken over looking after her cozy place, keeping up with the chores, and maintaining the homestead. In this video, I continue taking care of my grandmother's cozy countryside home. Despite the summer heat, taking care of this place brings a sense of peace and connection to my roots. Today, my main task was giving some love to our old water well. The front is already painted since it's made of wooden boards, but the back and roof are old slate covered in patches of moss. First, I used my grandmother's outdoor broom to thoroughly sweep away all the moss and dirt. Then, I cut a piece of lime wash with a knife, mixed it by hand in a bucket, and got to work. Watching the old grey slate turn snow-white as the lime dried in the sun felt like pure magic! After that, I grabbed a small can of white paint to refresh the thin wooden window frames that divide the glass, making them look even more charming and tidy. It was a lot of hard work in the heat, but the result was so rewarding. Even though this old house has seen many years, it holds incredible beauty and the warm atmosphere of our ancestors.
