PA #2.4 – Pump Gasket | Intermediate 2D CAD Practice Assignment

Today we are jumping into PA #2.4 – Pump Gasket from Practice Assignments Packet 2, and this one is a perfect example of a drawing that looks friendly… until it isn’t. We’ve got circles, bolt holes, arcs, a side tab, a curved slot, trimming, centerlines, and just enough little details to make you question your life choices for a second. But that’s the point of this packet — we’re past the super basic stuff now. This is where we start building better CAD habits. The big idea on this one is simple: build from the center out. Don’t just start clicking circles all over the place and hope the CAD gods bless you. Start with your centerlines, lock in the major diameters, place the bolt circle, pattern the holes, then clean up the gasket shape with trims and arcs. This drawing also has a Check for Understanding where you need to find the area of the final shape, so close enough isn’t good enough. The sketch has to actually be right.
