On cool afternoon in July from the Semiamoo Spit in Blaine, WA looking west -The gentle surf of these waters is soothing. Across the Strait of Georgia views of Point Roberts, Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island are seen.
A marginal sea of the Pacific Ocean, the Salish Sea is located in British Columbia, CA and Washington State, U.S.
Indigenous peoples inhabiting this area, sharing common cultural origins are the Coast Salish.
The Salish Sea contains more than 400 islands, some densely populated, others not. Great cities and vast forests line the coasts.
With deep channels, and a strong tidal influence the coastline is unique. The waters are brackish, with layers of both salt and fresh. These waters are home to humpback whales, killer whales, sea lions, sea otters and 253 fish species.
One of my adventures, since moving to this area 12 years ago, has been to drive all of this Puget Sound’s coastline, with my camera or paint brush in hand. 📷
The U.S. part, at least, I’ve accomplished ! 🌲☺️
