📜 Description Istanbul, between 1718 and 1730 — a brief, extravagant decade the Ottomans themselves called the Tulip Era. Courtiers filled their gardens with imported tulip varieties and held festivals by candlelight beneath them. Two hours of original piano, set in a palace garden on a bright morning, just after someone has stepped away from the small pavilion where they were playing. 🎹 About the music This was a court that valued music as much as it valued gardens. Ottoman classical music of the era — built on long melodic modes called makam, elegant, ornamented, and unhurried — was performed in exactly these kinds of garden pavilions, often for an audience of one. The piano here cannot reproduce a makam's microtones, so it borrows the grammar instead: a lowered second degree for colour within standard tuning, continuous ornamented melody that circles and returns, open fifths underneath like a held drone. Festive rather than solemn — this was a court famous for its parties. ✒️ Story Note The fountain has been running since dawn and nobody has come to turn it off, though nobody is watching it either. In the small domed pavilion, a coffee cup sits half finished beside a plate of dried apricots, and a sheet of music rests where it was set down — an instrument leaning against the cushions, warm from someone's hands not long ago. Along the water channel, a gardener carries young plants to wherever they're needed next, in no hurry, the cypress shadows moving slowly across the water as the morning goes on. The tulips do not care who is watching. They were planted to be extravagant, and they are. 🎨 Original artwork inspired by Ottoman court garden painting (1718–1730) 🎼 Original piano music inspired by Ottoman classical musical language 🌿 A calm space for reading, focus, and rest 🇰🇷 설명 이스탄불, 1718년에서 1730년 사이.
