Autumn Village Life in Ukraine | Mushroom Hunting, Potato Harvest & Farm Chores

A little escape to the forest, the last potatoes of the season, and everyday chores at home — join me for autumn village life in Ukraine. 🍂🍄 My name is Lena, and I live in a small village in the Poltava region of Ukraine. On Elena’s Country Life, I share our family routines, work around the homestead, and the little moments that make me happy. This time, I’m taking a break from household chores to spend some time in the forest. It feels wonderful just to be here, enjoying the fresh air and looking for mushrooms. My first finds are beautiful parasol mushrooms. I used to walk right past them because I didn’t know they were edible — now I know how delicious they can be! Later, I find two small porcini mushrooms and a little patch of slippery jacks. Even these small discoveries bring me so much joy. 🤎 Back at home, my family and I finish harvesting our potatoes. I dig the rows with a walk-behind tractor, which makes the work much easier, while we gather the potatoes together. We load the sacks onto the trailer, and finally, all our potatoes are home! Then it’s time to clean the goat shed. While the goats are out grazing, I clear out the manure and bedding and take it by wheelbarrow to the manure pile. There is always something to do in the village, but I’m grateful for moments like these — time in the forest, family working together, and the satisfaction of getting things done.
