Webinar: Rethinking Knowledge? Epistemic Agency and AI in Higher Education

This session explored how different academic disciplines define, value, and produce knowledge – and how these traditions are being reshaped by AI. Each discipline has distinct epistemological cultures and assumptions about what counts as knowledge. These assumptions influence not only academic research but also what universities expect students to learn and how they are assessed. In this panel, hosted by the Center for Higher and Adult Education at PH Zurich, scholars from varied disciplines examined how AI is affecting knowledge practices in their fields: What new opportunities or tensions are emerging in teaching and research? What are shared concerns – such as critical thinking – and where do fields diverge in their expectations (e.g., evidence standards, objectivity vs. interpretation)?
