McCabe-Thiele Method When Feed is 2/3 Vapor | Benzene Toluene Distillation | Example 3 In this video, we solve a complete McCabe-Thiele problem WITHOUT Equilibrium Data and WITHOUT Reflux Ratio. This is a 2-in-1 conceptual problem for Chemical Engineering students. PROBLEM STATEMENT: A mixture of benzene and toluene containing 40% benzene and 60% toluene (by weight) is to be separated in a fractionating column to give a distillate containing 96% benzene and a bottoms product containing 95% toluene. Feed is a mixture of 2/3 vapor and 1/3 liquid. Find the number of theoretical stages required if reflux ratio is 1.5 times the minimum. Relative volatility (α) = 2.5. WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN THIS VIDEO: ✓ How to convert Weight % to Mole % (Benzene-Toluene system) ✓ How to calculate Q (Feed Condition) when feed is 2/3 vapor ✓ How to draw equilibrium curve using relative volatility α = 2.5 [ y = αx / 1+(α-1)x ] ✓ How to find Rmin using Underwood equation / Intersection method ✓ How to draw Rectifying and Stripping Operating Lines ✓ Stepping to find Number of Theoretical Stages This video covers: 00:00 Introduction to Problem 01:20 Weight % to Mole % Conversion 03:15 Calculation of Q = 0.33 (2/3 vapor case) 05:10 Equilibrium Curve from Relative Volatility 07:30 Calculation of Rmin 09:45 Operating Lines & McCabe-Thiele Diagram 13:20 Final Answer - No. of Theoretical Stages IMPORTANT FORMULAS USED: Q = (Heat to vaporize 1 mol feed) / (Molar latent heat) Q = Liquid fraction = 1/3 = 0.33 for 2/3 vapor R = 1.5 x Rmin Watch Example 4 here: [   • McCabe Thiele with Material Balance | 100 ...  ] #McCabeThiele #Distillation #ChemicalEngineering #MassTransfer #BenzeneToluene #TheoreticalPlates #FractionatingColumn #ChemicalAdda #GATEChemical #RminCalculation
