One small click, and the lamp comes on. Behind that switch is a whole system: generators, wires, transformers, meters, loans, crews and decisions about who gets connected.
We follow electricity into American homes from Pearl Street in 1882 to the rural cooperatives of the 1930s and 1940s, with a brief look at London's Holborn Viaduct. Along the way: why a bulb alone was not enough, why higher voltage lets power travel farther, why power companies cared about the time of day, what the 1940 census actually measured, and why the wire took so long to reach the farm.

Diagrams, maps and demand curves are simplified explanations, not historical datasets. Historical figures are shown as symbolic illustrations, and household scenes are illustrative. This video gives no electrical or wiring instructions.
