Here’s another fan that got the axe during my big workshop cleanup, a fan that I actually have some memories for, but decided to let go due to how terrible it is at doing its job, let me explain. When I was a kid, my parents bought a 12” Regency wall fan for our dining room, it’s basically the exact same fan as this but with smaller grilles & blades. I remember vividly not being able to operate the pullcord due to how high it was mounted. Another thing I remember clearly is how creaky & rattly it was. I don’t think the blades were out of balance, but it made this terrible plastic rubbing sounds when it was running & oscillating. One funny episode from out ownership of that fan was the fact that the front grille fell off one day, apparently the plastic grille ring had deteriorated so much that it snapped in half due to the stress of being in tension holding the 2 grilles together. We eventually switched to using a pedestal fan in the dining room, and that wall fan fell into my hands, being used for tons & tons of experiments. I still have videos of that fan in its many frankenstein configurations which you can find on the links below. Years later, I got myself this fan new in box. I thought I was getting a halfway decent quality fan due to the mid-range price I paid for it, but once I got it home, I realized I got a fan that’s worse than the 12” version we had. For starters, the grilles are warped in a weird way, which prevents me from fully snapping the grille ring into place. The blades are warped & out of balance, resulting in a bad vibration & weird unbalanced whoosing sounds. Something with the way the neck connects to the motor results in this fan making weird plastic cracking noises, and after storing in for several years in an indoor environment, the plastic has started to deteriorate, and most of the pullcord fell apart when I pulled it.
