The World That Never Was has one of the thickest and unique atmospheres in the series and the music is a substantial part of that. The field theme "Sacred Moon" evokes a mysterious, beautiful but haunted feeling while the combat track "Deep Drive" pumps you up for a climactic battle. I only wish there was more to explore, particularly in the Dark City which has less attention than the castle.
Days has the lion's share of entries with separate in-game and soundtrack versions for all 3 of its songs. Days' version of Sacred Moon is more subtle and gentle, with it being a hub world in this game. It's the mystery and ethereal parts of KH2's version. Meanwhile Mystic Moon is another arrangement that plays on day 355/mission 91 when Roxas decides to leave. It's the heavy, oppressive aspect of the original taken up a notch to suit the serious endgame feeling. I love how synthy it sounds. The first picture I used for Mystic Moon makes it look like Roxas is hearing it on loop and going mad lol
When it comes to Deep Drive, I think it's noticeably weakest in KH2. Critical Drive and 2.5's version sound more punchy. Critical Drive also has that cool intro piano & strings and again, really like the synths that make this world feel very sci-fi and alien. (Something I love about Nobodies vs Heartless - sci-fi, ethereal, artifical vs fantasy, demonic, organic)
I was unsure what order to put these in at first, but I think 2-Days-2.5-DDD works best. DDD's tracks "Sacred Distance" and "Deep Drop" are like spin-offs, quoting the originals but still quite new, so they wouldn't work sandwiched between Days and 2.5. Sacred Distance sounds appropriately distorted at times, and you can hear a bit of Dearly Beloved snuck in there. Also Drop and Distance in the names, makes sense. Shame there's no "Mystic Dream" or something.
Next comp I'll do is Xemnas themes, but probably after some other type of video.
