Threaded throughout is the shadow of Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness and the brutal history of King Leopold's rule, alongside a present-day Congo still shaped by rebel militias, economic hardship, and, despite everything, persistent hope. Anthony confronts this complicated history while experiencing a Congo that refuses to fit neatly into any single narrative. This is not a polished travel brochure.
