会えないからこそ (Precisely Because We Can't Meet) | JLPT N3 〜ては & 〜からこそ Grammar Song 🌙
Learn how to describe repeating cycles and how to say "precisely because" through a song about long-distance love
📚 What You'll Learn:
1. 〜ては (a repeated action, a recurring cycle)
Formation: verb て-form + は
One action keeps leading to the next, again and again. It's often used in pairs: Verb A ては Verb B.
Examples from the song:
• 会っては 別れ 別れては 待つ (We meet and part, then part and wait)
• 電話を切っては またかけたくなる (I hang up, then want to call again)
• カレンダーを 見ては かぞえて (I look at the calendar and count the days, over and over)
• 強がっては また 一人になる (I act tough, and end up alone again)
• 手をふっては ふりかえって (I wave, then look back, again and again)
2. 〜からこそ (precisely because)
Formation: plain form + からこそ (noun or な-adjective + だからこそ)
It puts strong emphasis on the reason: "it's exactly because of this that..."
Examples from the song:
• 会えないからこそ 会える日が たからもの (Precisely because we can't meet, the days we can are precious)
• 会えない日が あるからこそ (Precisely because there are days we can't meet)
• だからこそ 私は 待てる (And that's exactly why I can wait)
💡 Quick Comparison
〜から 〜からこそ
Meaning because precisely because
Feeling a neutral reason "this is the real reason"
In the song. 心配するから 会えないからこそ
(because you'd worry) (precisely because we can't meet)
📝 Note: 〜ては also appears in 〜てはいけない ("must not"). When it comes in pairs of actions (A ては B ては), it means a repeated cycle.
🔁 Review Grammar in the Song:
• 〜ても (even if / even though): 遠く離れていても
• 〜なくても (even if not): 声が聞こえなくても
• どんなに〜ても (no matter how...): どんなに遠くても、どんなに待っても
• 〜たら (if, a hypothetical): もしまいにち会えていたら (If I could see you every day)
📝 Translation Notes:
近くに思える means "it feels close." 思える is a feeling that arises by itself, so the line says that even a faraway town can feel near tonight.
おかえり is usually "welcome home." Here it's what you say when your partner returns, so each meeting feels like a homecoming.
強がる means putting on a brave front, acting stronger than you feel.
✍️ Vocabulary:
• 駅のホーム: station platform
• 手をふる: to wave
• ふりかえる: to look back
• かぞえる (数える): to count
• 離れる (はなれる): to be apart
• 心配する (しんぱいする): to worry
• 宝物 (たからもの): treasure
• 週末 (しゅうまつ): weekend
🎯 Best For:
• JLPT N3 students
• Learners who want to describe habits, cycles, and repeated patterns
• Anyone who likes emotional, hopeful J-pop ballads
