A seminal, raw milestone of early Belgian Rave, New Beat, and Proto-Acid House that marked the powerful debut of legendary production outfit The Mackenzie.
Released in late 1989 as catalog USA 3001 on the influential Belgian label USA Import Music (distributed in tandem with Music Man Records), Party People represents a historic moment in European clubbing. Masterminded by Jean-Pierre Fasseau alongside Eric Roanne and Pierrot Van Cothen, this release bridged the heavy, pitch-shifted industrial tempo of New Beat with the faster, hypnotic energy of Chicago Acid House and emerging early techno.
Technically, Party People is an absolute study in analog groove design and early vocal sampling mechanics. Cut at 45 RPM and mastered at Foon Mastering in Belgium, the track is anchored by a driving, syncopated 909 drum grid paired with rolling, squelchy 303-style acid baselines. The vocal cut-ups—sampled directly from Fast Eddie's seminal hip-house cuts—are looped over atmospheric synth drops and raw percussive builds, creating a relentless, dark floor-filler that echoed through Belgian megaclubs like Boccaccio and Torhout.
For vinyl archivists, crate-diggers, and rave historians, Party People is a cornerstone 12" pressing—capturing the exact instant Belgian dance music broke free from New Beat to spark the early-'90s rave revolution.
