Today’s mission: Survive the Japanese summer heat with a massive bowl of cold udon.
I headed to Marugame Seimen, Japan’s #1 self-service udon chain, only to realize it was the 1st of the month — "Kamaage Udon Day." The lunch rush was insane, and my dream seafood udon was completely SOLD OUT! 😭
But the backup plan did not disappoint. I ordered a beautiful bowl of chilled "Oni-oroshi" pork shabu udon, loaded it up at the free toppings station, and grabbed my absolute favorite sides: crispy chikuwa and a perfectly soft-boiled egg tempura.
If you are planning a trip to Japan, ordering at these fast-paced local chains can be intimidating. This vlog is your full guide to the Marugame rail system, from grabbing your tray to bussing your table like a local salaryman.
This is Episode 1 of my Cold Noodles in Japan series — more cold udon, soba & spicy noodles coming soon. Subscribe so you don't miss the next bowl! 🔔

・Everything is self-service and one-way — grab a tray, order, watch it made, add free toppings, pay, then bus your own tray.
・Slurping = "it's delicious" in Japan. 😋
