Poem 20. Grass Flowers

Some of my favoriite childhood memories involve summers in the high plains and valleys of the Appalachian mountains, punctuated by cool nights in wooden cabins and warm but not hot days among streams, lakes and green fields nestled below mountain peaks that seemed only an arm's reach away. I still vividly recall the scent of the wild grass flowers, the background soundtrack to every camping expedition, hike, or horseback ride, evening fire or night under the stars. Thus this poem. The poem is an an A A B B structure, with the opening A section repeated at the end and finishing with a short coda.
