In our wild and varied travels this past summer, we spent an amazing week in Mexico. The first few days we spent in Mexico City, where we stayed right next to the Bosque de Chapultepec. "Bosque" means "Forest," and you can imagine this as a green space over twice the size of Central Park in NYC, with as many museums as the Smithsonian in DC. All right in the middle of Mexico City, one of the largest cities in the world. Our walks today take you through a small part of the Bosque de Chapultepec. Our first stop is the eponymous Castillo de Chapultepec, an incredible building on top of a hill overlooking the city. The castle has a complex and fascinating history that weaves through the whole history of Mexico, and it's been transformed into a museum with many different types of exhibits that capture slices of that history. Check out their full website here: https://mnh.inah.gob.mx/ The next day, my husband, dad, brother, oldest daughter, and I went to the National Anthropology Museum. I went here once before, over twenty years ago, but I was in a large group and don't remember much. This time we took our time going through the exhibits that caught our interest. I didn't mean for this section to totally take over this video, but I couldn't help it! Mesoamerican anthropology is a lifelong interest of mine, and this museum did an amazing job transporting you to these spectacular sites, and placing them in the context of interconnected Mesoamerican history and indigenous life that continues to this day. Their website is here: https://mna.inah.gob.mx/ My only wish is that I could have hiked the whole perimeter of the Bosque de Chapultepec. There are hours of amazing hiking loops in this beautiful place. To say nothing of the several art and history museums, and an amusement park, and the taquerias and fresh fruit available everywhere. What a delightful place to spend a few days - next time I could spend a week.
