If you've ever felt your throat tighten up the second you take a breath to sing, this one's for you. Most of us — especially if we grew up thinking we "can't sing" — breathe into our upper chest without even realizing it. And that one habit is enough to make everything feel harder than it needs to be: your throat tightens, your shoulders creep up, your voice doesn't have room to move. In this video I show you the fix: breathing low, letting your belly and ribs stay loose, and using those big, strong muscles down low to support your sound instead of straining up top. I also share a visual trick I use to actually feel the difference (steering wheel metaphor included). This is one of the very first things I teach every non-singer I work with — because once your breath is working with you instead of against you, everything else gets easier. Try it along with me and let me know in the comments what you notice. Want more?
