Hello everyone! We're diving into the *F-4E Phantom II* at 11.3 BR in the American tech tree. This jet is a true "tale of two halves": absolutely brutal when stock, but an air combat monster once fully spaded [00:00:12].
The Painful Grind (The Stock Problem)
The primary issue is the immense modification cost, which is the same as top-tier jets [00:00:39]. Stock, you are stuck with the ineffective *AIM-9E* and slow *AIM-7E* missiles [00:04:05]. It's so rough that using ground ordnance to bomb bases to quickly unlock mods is completely justified [00:08:18].
The Spaded Powerhouse (The Solution)
The F-4E becomes a fantastic fighter once you unlock its key modifications:
*AIM-7E-2 (Dogfight):* This is the game-changer. Unlike the standard AIM-7E, the E-2 has an incredibly quick reaction time [00:04:49]. Use it effectively for jousting, high-altitude targets, and catching enemies off guard up to 10km [00:05:32].
*AIM-9J:* A reliable close-range heat-seeker for the endgame [00:03:45].
*Countermeasures:* The F-4E has flares and chaff, a critical advantage over its predecessor, the F-4C [00:08:55]. *Warning:* This jet burns hot, so watch out for high-G missiles like the PL-5B!
Key Tactics & Pro-Tips
*The Radar Flaw:* The AQ-120 radar lacks a reliable Pulse Doppler (PD) mode, meaning it struggles to lock enemies close to the ground when they are flying towards you [00:02:19].
*PRO TIP: Holding Lock on Chaff:* Even if the enemy throws chaff and your radar seems to lock the chaff cloud, *DO NOT RESET THE LOCK!* The missile will still track the original plane if you maintain the lock [00:07:12].
*Engagement Style:* This is a long-range missile platform. Focus on engaging enemies from a distance and avoid getting into tight turn fights [00:09:30].
After 61 battles, we finished with a *52% win rate* and an incredible *141 Air Kills to only 38 Deaths**, achieving a fantastic **3.7:1 K/D* [00:10:03]!
