Iberville Street: Walking the French Quarter

Iberville Street is named after Pierre Le Moyne d’Iberville, a founder of Louisiana. D’Iberville explored the Mississippi River in 1699 and established a colony that would become Louisiana. He and his brother, Sieur de Bienville, founded New Orleans 17 years later. The city was named Nouvelle Orleans in honor of the Duke of Orleans, France’s ruling regent at the time.
