Koran Irvine was on his way home from work. A near-miss on the George Washington Bridge ended with one bullet, and police say the man behind it was a retired NYPD detective. Koran Irvine, 46, of Valley Cottage, New York, was a husband, a father of two, and a 20-year Con Edison worker. This is his story. On October 20, 2026, at about 6:47 p.m., Koran's Volkswagen and a black Range Rover nearly collided while merging onto the upper level of the George Washington Bridge. Prosecutors say the Range Rover followed him closely, pulled alongside, and fired one shot through his rear passenger window. Koran's car crashed into the median, and he was pronounced dead at Englewood Hospital. Victor Romero, 62, a retired NYPD detective from Haverstraw, was arrested the next day. The charge was reduced from murder to first-degree manslaughter, he pleaded not guilty, and he is being held on $1 million bail. Koran's family calls the lower charge "a miscarriage of justice."
