Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe and Bell CEO Mirko Bibic announced a major expansion of a 300-megawatt data centre outside Regina, Sask., on Monday at the inaugural Canada Investment Summit in Toronto, Ont. With Carney considering it the largest capital investment in Saskatchewan’s history, Bibic announced the project would be quadrupled in size to a “1.2 gigawatt facility at full build-out, requiring $50 billion in capital investment.” “You can depend on infrastructure built elsewhere. You can depend on laws of other countries. You can have your data sent elsewhere. Or you can build it right here under Canadian, on Canadian ground with Canadian power and Canadian law and with the confidence that comes from being a stable and open partner.” Carney said. “Do we build the infrastructure necessary to keep Canadian data in Canada? Or do we leave our data sovereignty in the hands of other countries? Well, in Canada and in Saskatchewan, we have made our choice. We will protect what is ours.” Moe said. The announcement comes on the sidelines of the inaugural Canada Investment Summit, which brings together business leaders and global asset managers to get a look at major projects in various stages of development across Canada. The summit is a key part of Caney’s plan for stimulating $1 trillion in investment in Canada over the next five years. For more info, please go to https://globalnews.ca/news/12057479/m...
