44 Men With Machine Guns vs a Roman Legion

1942 meets 50 BC. A single German infantry platoon - 44 men with Kar98k rifles, MP 40s, four MG 42 machine guns and stick grenades - has to hold a village against a full Roman legion of 4,811 legionaries, veterans and centurions. Outnumbered more than 100 to 1, every minute they hold costs the legion hundreds of men. But every man lost is a gun that falls silent, and there's nowhere left to fall back to. Both sides are simulated using the real tactics of their era: fighting withdrawal by bounds, interlocking machine-gun fire and a final 360° perimeter against the triplex acies, the testudo, line relief and a legion that refuses to stop coming. Every soldier is simulated individually with his own morale, fatigue, ammunition and armour.
