He arrived in Mexico City in 1991 with almost no Spanish, almost no money and a move set made of punches and kicks. Within two years he was one of the most famous faces in the country, and the reason he got there was the one thing everybody assumed would sink him.
This is the story of Vampiro, born Ian Hodgkinson in Thunder Bay, Ontario, and known in Mexico as Vampiro Canadiense. From a hockey draft pick and a Milli Vanilli bodyguard to the CMLL rookie that Antonio Peña named, we follow him through Arena México, the hair match against Pirata Morgan, five cabelleras in nine months, the UWA World Heavyweight Championship win over El Canek, the film Guerrero de la Noche and the telenovela role that went to Konnan instead, and the rivalry that followed.
Then WCW. The Nitro debut in 1998, the Misfits, the Dead Pool with Raven and the Insane Clown Posse, Starrcade and Oklahoma, the Brothers in Paint run with Sting and the Human Torch match at The Great American Bash, the WCW tag titles with the Great Muta lost the next night to Rey Mysterio and Juventud Guerrera, and the broken neck that left him outside the WWF buyout. After that, AAA, Lucha Underground and Pentagón, and a final match at JCW Strangle-Mania in Las Vegas.
