Kelly Daugherty is a clinical social worker, a fellow in thanatology, and the founder of the Center for Informed Grief, where she trains therapists and school staff to better support grieving children and adults. In this episode we get into her G.R.I.E.F. framework, Grounding, Rebuilding, Interacting, Evolving, and Finding, a set of tools she built after 25 years of watching grief refuse to follow any map. Kelly explains why children so often hide their pain to protect the adults around them, why a journal can say what a child can't yet say out loud, and why grief can resurface decades later without warning, the way hers did the year she lost her father. Kelly's own path into this work started at 14, when she lost her mother and walked into a hospice grief group for the first time. Everything she has built since, her books, her trainings, and her podcast, traces back to that room. If you or someone you know is in crisis, please contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (US) or Talk Suicide Canada at 1-833-456-4566. This episode discusses grief, loss, and bereavement and is not a substitute for care from a licensed professional.
