Encountering Evil: The Cowden Family Murders

A young family takes a spontaneous camping trip over Labor Day weekend in 1974. On Sunday morning, everything at their campsite looks normal. There are things from breakfast on the picnic table, a dishpan filled with water, children’s belongings, and a carton of milk bought just hours earlier. But by that evening, the entire family is gone. Their truck is still parked nearby. The keys, a wallet, and a purse have all been left behind. It looks like they stepped away from the campsite expecting to come right back. The family was camping near Copper, Oregon, a tiny community within the Siskiyou National Forest that has since been inundated and buried beneath Applegate Lake. More than fifty years later, the full story of what happened there remains buried with it.
