Jersey and Guernsey were the only British soil that Nazi Germany ever occupied, and most people never learn why it happened or what daily life looked like there. This video follows one farm family on Jersey from the morning the German aircraft came over in July 1940, through the first weeks of occupation, the rationing, the hidden wireless sets and the deportations of 1942. You will come away knowing how the islands were left undefended without warning, how ordinary islanders made tea from brambles and salt from seawater, and why the Bailiffs kept the island's government running under German orders. It is told slowly, in the calm voice of a narrator who keeps returning to real names, real dates and the small choices people made.
