On September 16, 2009, 24-year-old psychology graduate Mitrice Richardson was arrested at a Malibu restaurant over an $89 bill and booked at the Lost Hills Sheriff's Station. Just after midnight, she was released alone — with no phone, no money and no car — into the canyons of the Santa Monica Mountains. Eleven months later, her remains were found in a remote creek bed.
This documentary follows her arrest, the station's security footage, the searches that followed, the controversy over how her remains were recovered, and the lawsuits and investigations that never resulted in charges.
