Welcome back to the VISIONQUEST breakdown. Today we’re unpacking Jocasta, the killer episodes three and four just pulled out of the shadows. Marvel fans have waited nearly fifty years to see her on screen. In the comics she was built as Ultron’s bride, a machine meant to carry another woman’s mind. VISIONQUEST turns that idea upside down, and the answer could change who you’re rooting for in the finale.
VISIONQUEST takes the MCU’s synthetic story somewhere darker and more personal. Episode three, “Reboot,” introduces a serial killer the press calls the Butcherbird. She is a hooded figure with glowing eyes who leaves wing shapes around every victim and shrugs off shotgun blasts. Then episode four, “Malware,” unmasks her as Jocasta, played by T’Nia Miller in the character’s first-ever live-action appearance. She isn’t a copy built from a dead scientist. She says she is the scientist, Dr. Josephine Carrington, still alive inside the machine.
In this video we break down everything the two episodes revealed, one beat at a time:
The comic-book origin from Avengers #162 in 1977, and why Ultron named his bride after the most famous mother-wife in Greek tragedy.
The single line at her unmasking that rewrites the whole show’s AI theme.
How she hacks into Vision’s Mindspace, turns the sky red, and forces his own AIs to perform an exorcism on her code.
The Markridge Biotech connection, the biological keys she took from her old colleagues, and why Dr. Katerina Wells was the final key.
The Sokovia Remembrance Day gala, the moment Ultron takes the wheel, and the chilling first meeting between Ultron and Jocasta.
The casting detail that puts T’Nia Miller and Mary McDonnell back in the same scientist-against-executive collision.
Then comes the honesty check. We separate what’s confirmed on screen from what’s still unknown: who built her body, what the locked Markridge container holds, and whether she’s tied to the Paladin’s mysterious client. We also lay out our theory on why Carrington didn’t die, why she may have been harvested, and why that would make Jocasta not Vision’s enemy but his origin.
Maybe you’ve followed VISIONQUEST since episode one, or maybe you’re catching up now. Either way, this is the character that could decide how the season ends.

Then settle it in the comments: is Jocasta a villain, or a victim getting revenge? And if Ultron offers her the key she just lost, would she take it?
One woman was told she died. One machine says she didn’t. This is Jocasta, explained.
