There is a verse in the Bible honest enough to say out loud what most of us have thought in private and felt ashamed of: ruthless people really do get rich. "A gracious woman retains honour, and ruthless men retain riches." The wisest man of the ancient world watched the hard and the cruel end up wealthy, and instead of pretending it was not true, he wrote it down.
This teaching reads Proverbs 11:16 close to the original Hebrew, where the words are sharper than the polite English lets on. The word many Bibles soften to "strong men" is aritz - the ruthless, the violent, the tyrant who wins by force and fear. But look at what each one keeps: the ruthless retain riches, and the gracious retain kavod - honour, a weight of reputation that lasts. Riches and honour are two different currencies, and they do not survive the same tests. Riches do not profit in the day of wrath (Proverbs 11:4); a good name is chosen above great riches (Proverbs 22:1). And there is a bright line between strength and cruelty - drawn exactly at the false balance, the rigged scale God calls an abomination (Proverbs 11:1). The ruthless can gain the whole world and forfeit the soul (Mark 8:36); the King of all honour won it by becoming poor (2 Corinthians 8:9), and was given the name above every name.
NOTE: This is biblical teaching, not financial advice, and not a promise that keeping your integrity will make you wealthy. It is a principle about which currency lasts. Take what is wise, pray over the rest, and act with integrity.
In this teaching you will discover:
✦ Proverbs 11:16 - the sharper Hebrew: not "strong men" but aritz, the ruthless and violent
✦ Two currencies - why riches expire and honour (kavod) does not
✦ Proverbs 11:4 and 22:1 - why a good name is worth more than a full account
✦ The bright line - Proverbs 11:1 and the false balance God hates, where strength becomes cruelty
✦ Mark 8:36 - what the ruthless can never keep, even after gaining the whole world
✦ 2 Corinthians 8:9 - the King who was rich, became poor, and won the name above every name
✦ Kavod is weight - what grace actually retains, and why a good name compounds for twenty years
✦ A three-line plan: name your bright line, choose honour, and be strong without becoming the aritz
