On November 15th, 1990, Alydar — the greatest runner-up in racing history and the sire behind Calumet Farm's late revival — was euthanized after a shattered hind leg. The official story was a freak accident. But a night watchman who says he was told to stay home, a stall repaired before the insurance inspector arrived, a vanished X-ray, and an MIT engineer's courtroom testimony about broken bolts kept the question alive for decades.
This film walks through the whole case: the Affirmed rivalry, Calumet's financial collapse, and the federal bank-fraud trial of farm president J.T. Lundy, drawing on the testimony, insurance accounts and court rulings reported at the time. A federal judge called the circumstances suspicious but could not conclude that Lundy was responsible, and no one has ever been charged with harming Alydar. Every piece of evidence on both sides, laid out in order — you decide.
