I almost didn't film this week.
My hair wasn't done, I didn't feel particularly pretty, and honestly, I just wasn't really feeling like being in front of the camera. But I had made myself a promise to keep documenting our life, and I've been thinking a lot about what it actually means to document a life as it's being lived.
Not just the polished moments. Not just the holidays, birthdays and big family days, but the school runs, forgotten shoes, looking for slippers, window shopping, breakfast together, taking the children to Graves Park, cooking, coming home and all the little pieces in between.
Because one day, these will be the things my children look back on.
They might want to know what Mummy looked like when they were little. What we ate. Where we went. What our mornings looked like. What it felt like to be a family of four at this particular point in our lives.
And perhaps that's the strange thing about time. We rarely recognise the moments that will become memories while we're actually living them.
Towards the end of the vlog, I take you with me on a quiet drive through the Peak District, passing through the 13 Bents.
The scenery made me think about the winding roads, the things we can't see around the next bend, and those seasons of life where everything on the outside can look beautiful while, internally, you feel a little disconnected.
Especially when you're living away from home, building a life somewhere far from where you began, there can be moments when even the people who love you can't quite reach what you're carrying.
And sometimes, when everything else reaches its limit, the prayer becomes very simple:
"God, help me."
An SOS.
This isn't really a vlog with a neat conclusion. Just a little piece of our life, and a few thoughts I had while driving.
Maybe you’re somewhere along your own winding road too.
Welcome to another Zim Girl Diaries. 🤍
