Ikarus Evolution (1895 - 2020) ►Ikarus was a famous Hungarian bus manufacturer and one of the largest bus producers in the Eastern Bloc. Its buses became a familiar sight across Europe, Asia, Africa, and Cuba. Ikarus became especially famous for its large, durable city and intercity buses. The Ikarus 200 series, introduced in the 1960s, became its most important product family. Models such as the Ikarus 260 and articulated Ikarus 280 were produced in enormous numbers and became icons of public transport in cities such as Budapest, Moscow, and Warsaw. The company also produced coaches and specialized buses, including the Ikarus 55, which was known for its distinctive rounded design and became one of Hungary's classic buses. Ikarus expanded strongly during the communist period, when Hungary exported buses throughout the Soviet Union and other socialist countries. At its peak, it was one of the world's largest bus manufacturers. After the collapse of communism, Ikarus struggled with the loss of its traditional export markets and financial difficulties. The company went through several ownership changes and reorganizations, and its original large-scale production declined sharply.
