La Più Bella Italia (the Northern Italy tour)

A September 2018 small-group journey through Northern Italy, from art capitals to Alpine passes. We begin under the floodlit spires of Milan’s Duomo and continue to Lake Como at Varenna. From Tirano we ride the Bernina Express into the Swiss Alps and see the castle ruins of Grosio in the fog. On Lake Iseo we visit Monte Isola and the castle of Isola di Loreto. Then come Juliet’s balcony in Verona and Mantegna’s Wedding Room in Mantua. The trip ends in the Dolomites at Selva di Val Gardena, Brixen in South Tyrol, and Bassano del Grappa, where we crash a wedding party.
