Invitation to become Jesus' Family

"Invitation to become Jesus' Family" A Man is identified by his Family. A Man gets his name and identity from his family. Value formation in man also begins from his family. In society a person is identified by his name and Family. When we look for marriage proposal, we enquire on the family history and family values. Some of us may have reputable family name while some of us are humble in our family names. Whatever may be the case how should a family be and where should the family ultimately belong is something the word of God teaches us. Gospel according to Mark 3:31-35 introduces us to a family and that family is none other than Jesus' Family. The gospel of Mark begins with the Baptism of Jesus Christ,followed by His temptation, then followed by choosing His disciples and starting His ministry by preaching in the synagogues and healing people. Jesus was followed by large number of people and in ch 3:20 we see that Jesus and his disciples entered a house but they could not even eat because a large crowd followed him there. Hearing this his family got worried and went to look upon him as we see in verse 31. When Jesus is told his family is looking for him Jesus responded; 33 Who are my mother and my brothers?” he asked. 34 Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother.” While the one who gave the message about Jesus' Family waiting outside looking for him was referring to Jesus' Biological family, Jesus responded in the spiritual realm that any one who does the will of God is Jesus' Family. So was Jesus denying His Mother and brothers and sisters, well No!, rather Jesus was extending invitation to become His Family, His Mother, brother and sister by doing the will of God. The identity of Jesus' Family is - the one who does the will of God. There is an invitation Jesus gives to all of us to become His Family by doing the will of God. With the invitation, there is a Responsibility or duty that Jesus is assigning that is to hear the word, follow the word and Practice the Word of God. Christian Faith assures us of Eternal life and Eternal Home. And if we want to be part of the eternal home , our family should become Jesus' Family so that we enjoy Eternal Life. And to become Jesus' Family, we have to do the Will of God. May God Bless us all and strengthen us all to do His will so that we become Jesus' Family! All Praise be to Jesus Christ alone!
