Metallica - Deep Cuts & Beyond - The Virtual Concert Experience - (2011)

In 2011 Metallica celebrated their 30th anniversary. They played 4 different nights with unique setlists that involved plenty of rare songs. I decided to pick my favourite deep cut performances from those shows. Also the entire Beyond Magnetic EP is included in the video hence the title "deep cuts & beyond". It's a compilation but once again I did my best to make it feel like one big concert. The show is held indoors in a decently small venue. Also the footage is mostly not pro-shot but the audio is official. I saw an opportunity to experiment with some special effects and I hope you like them. This video starts off with an intro that builds up to the concert. Timestamps will be added shortly after the live premiere. I made this one with love for Metallica. My Apocalypse - (2:26:56) Outro - (2:32:10) TECHNICAL ASPECTS VISUALS Visuals are improved by highlighting the essential things while making things look more clear in the distance. Also some added sharpness is added to further help reaching the goal of imitating higher resolutions than 1080p. Video was rendered in 2K to get the best out of the enhancements. AUDIO I chose FLAC as audio format which ensures the highest possible audio quality while still maintining a good amount of rawness. Some songs required an audio boost to fit in with others or they simple sounded better by doing so. TRANSITIONS For this one I had to do transitions a bit differently. The lack of hang time at the end of the songs didn't allow to go smoothly into the next song. Almost all of the song started and ended with a speech so there was not much room to work with. Therefore I added blackscreen in between songs and some crowd noise to make the transitions as natural as possible. The crowd noise was used from random moments during the shows where James or other band members weren't on the microphone. ADDITIONAL EDITS The video starts with a build up to the actual concert. I used some meet & greet and othe pre-show footage to create that build-up. Also Lars intro made a comeback for this video and those are always purposefully edited like a shit show. This video is basically one big flex on additional edits. I thought the live venue as well as video footage was suited for such editing treatment. So there are a lot of special effects used for every performance. I also played with black screen a lot more not just in between the clips but also during. All and all I tried to add some character to each performance but the editing credits for "The God That Failed" as well as " The Outlaw Torn" belong to Milanica Channel. I was forced to use those clips since I couldn't find any better ones. Might I also add that I added some "we want more" chants before the start of The Outlaw Torn which starts a tasty "encore". I would like to make those encore moments at the end of these concerts more in the future.
