After eight years living in the United States, I thought I understood why Americans talk to strangers.
I assumed it was friendliness. But over time I started to realise I was looking at Americans the wrong way.
From conversations in grocery stores to chance encounters with complete strangers, I began to notice something deeper happening. Friendliness wasn't the goal. It was often the way Americans make people feel welcome, included, and like they belong.
In this video, I share the moment my perspective changed and why this part of American culture means more to me now than it did when I first arrived from Australia.
If you've ever wondered why Americans are so friendly, why Americans talk to strangers, or how American culture differs from Australian culture, I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
