Cancer cases in Africa are projected to double by 2040. In Nigeria alone, an estimated 128,000 new cancer cases and 80,000 deaths are recorded annually. These numbers raise important questions about what is driving the increase and what can be done to address it. For many people, cancer is a frightening diagnosis surrounded by questions about its causes, symptoms, treatment, and chances of survival. Understanding the disease also means looking at how our lifestyles have changed, what we eat today compared to our ancestors, and how genetics and environmental factors may influence our health. In this episode of THE ECHO PODCAST, I sit with Professor Solomon Rotimi, a Professor of Clinical Biochemistry at Covenant University and Vice President of AORTIC(African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer), to discuss the growing number of cancer cases in Africa, what may be driving the increase, and how changes in our diet, genetics, and environment could be connected to cancer risk. Here's what you'll learn: • How genetics and ancestry relate to cancer risk • How Changes in diet may affect our health • How environmental factors may influence cancer risk • Why Prostate Cancer Is More Aggressive in Black Men • The Best Time to Get Sunlight for Vitamin D • How genetic testing can help guide cancer treatment • Why cancer can return when cured • The challenges of cancer diagnosis and treatment in Nigeria If you want to understand cancer, learn more about its possible causes, and explore how research can improve prevention and treatment, this conversation is for you. 🔔Subscribe to @the_olushola for more topical conversations. 🎧Listen on Spotify @olusholaolaleye: https://open.spotify.com/episode/6Ski...
